Their is a debate raging in my office about how long the keeper rule is 14".  I say its been about 20 years, does anybody know?

Durand Dan

It was changed to 14" from 12" in 1993. Just for infomation it was upped from 10" t0 12" in 1976

BigFish01

Thanks so much for your help!  I couldn't find it anywhere!!!

dartag

wish they would change it back to 10" then i could weigh a limit once and a while.

love them down south weigh-ins with 12" limits     5 fish that weigh  4.5 lbs

Dartag,
FYI, there are still at least 3 lakes in Michigan where there is a 10" limit on Bass:

Big Pleasent Lake
Corey Lake
Stone Lake

Look for touraments on those. I'll bet a 5 fish limit would be close to 2lbs. ;D

I've been trying for years to get the DNR to change the limit on Selkirk Lake to 12".  Lord knows (and so do I!!) the the average fish caught in there is right at that length.... or less.

I remember when it went from 10" to 12".  My grandfather was so Pi$$ed!  Back then there were a ton of 10" fish in Lake Orion (at least the ones he would catch  :D), and he complained that he couldn't catch enough fish for a fish fry. Ah, the good 'ol days...

In 2005 I actually won a tournament on Lake Santa Margarita out in California on a 12" limit lake, 1 day tournament and I got big fish with 5.78lbs and the big fish was 1.58lbs lol Whoee

Got Fish??

I'm glad it is 14". The quality of fish is better. Every angler dreams of that big lunker. If it go's back to 12"-10", All the people who keep fish will rob us of a better fishery. With most anglers catching and releasing our chances of  a healthy bass population is better. I would like to see the other fish limits raised.

I totally agree. But there are lakes that have too many stunted fish in them.  The DNR planted walleye in Selkirk in an effort to limit some of the class years of bass... it failed and the lake still offers great fishing... if you don't mind a ton of 10-12" fish.
