With the 2006 bass season fast approaching thoughts are turning to this years? state championship.? As you all should know by now it is going to be held on Saginaw Bay and we will be launching out of Veteran?s Memorial Park in downtown Bay City.? The check-in and banquet will be held on Thursday August 24th, and the competition days will be August 25th & 26th, with Sunday the 27th being an alternate day due to weather.

This year?s championship is again being run by Paul Sacks and Paul Wagner of the Michigan Bass Federation www.michiganbass.net , along with help by me.? Since these gentlemen have taken over the championship; it has improved each year and the upcoming tournament will be no exception.? I came aboard mostly because I am somewhat local to Bay City and feel I can offer quick help as needed due to my proximity.?

I know a lot of talk has been made of disappointment due to the long no wake zone from Vet?s Park to the Bay, and as true as this is, Bay City is going to be a terrific host for the championship.?

On Friday March 3rd, the Paul?s and I met up at the ramp with a representative from the Bay Area Convention & Visitor?s Bureau http://www.tourbaycitymi.org? to talk about the event and begin scheduling for the banquet and accommodations.? It became immediately obvious that Bay City is absolutely ecstatic that we are holding our tournament there and will be making sure they help us to a level that has never been achieved before.? The bureau is helping with absolutely everything including going to local businesses and ?recruiting? volunteers to help with every imaginable need!? Bay City received a ?Cool City? grant from Governor Granholm and it is well deserved based on their representatives.?

So please, look forward to the 2006 State Championship and plan to fish it.? We are all in for a treat, great food, great accommodations, great competition, a great city, and of course GREAT FISHING?everything we look for and more.? See you there.
