What is the this big infatuation I am observing about Kent Lake???  I don't get it.  I know there are big fish there.  I know there is good structure and cover that every bassfisherman loves and gets excited about.  But I can not get that excited about that lake.  The launches are shallow and in need of some serious upgrades.  The speed limit is 10mph.  That 10mph thing is really why I don't venture there much except for the occasional NBAA Event during a weeknight.  With LSC and Erie and the world class fishing they turn out every year, why would one not go there and instead go to Kent???  Please guys enlighten me because I just can't get excited   :-\'  about Kent.  I would go to Erie and St. Clair in a heartbeat on opening day......but Kent?!?!?!   ???   ???    ???  I would go to Erie and St. Clair before I would go anywhere inland.  I go inland when the NOAA puts small craft warnings up.  But during those days, my choice would not be Kent.

Please chime in guys and let me know why you would go to Kent first on April 25, 2009 and not LSC and Erie???  I know some of you live way west and it is a long drive.  I am 24 miles from the launch on St. Clair that I use and about the same to Erie Metro when I fish Erie.  Again, fellas, please chime in a convince me to fish Kent more.  I have done very well there and have cashed checks fishing there.  But I still can't get excited about it.

I was thinking the same thing.
Why don't you guys come to Clair and afterwards we can go to the Plaid Rabbit. Hooters is so over rated. ;D

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.

I think because there is a very good chance you can catch a 5 pound smallie every time you go there. And it's different from the other area lakes since you don't fish docks and pound the shoreline. I do hate the launches and wish they improved them, and really wish they didn't obliterate the weeds. But it is a great lake that is close to a lot of us.

That being said I'll be on LSC the 25th.  :P

It's 20 minutes from the house for me.  One hour and 15 minutes or so to St. clar and an hour or so to Erie.  I wouldn't call it an infatuation with me, only convenience.  Plus, being a rider now vs. a boater, I go where I can, when I can.  It's pretty simple in my mind.

Ditto Cheetam..Kent is 10 minutes from my house which makes it timely and inexpensive!  AND...when my 4-year old gets tired in te boat...she and Mom can hop on over to the waterpark, have a picnic...and run around the park as much as they want.  Hope to fish it much more this season.

Cheers!

Durand Dan

I like it because of the 10mph speed limit. I don't have to put up with chest thumping 65mph jet skis and boats. It also offers hiking and nature trails and quiet. St Clair and Erie are are just too TYPE A for me

We might as well start planning for the DK Open "after party".  I'm game for just about anywhere.

i really only enjoy it in the spring.  Langer and myself had a blast last year with the EBA guys.  i think it was the best LM day i have ever had.  It is quiet so you can hear Mccarter whine from all over the lake. No jet skis or tuna boats.  this year Cheetam has so many new crankbaits to try i am afraid my boat might not get up on plane on a bigger lake.  with the weather forcast the sights on the bike path could be fun also.  Going to H with the boys after is a bonus.

Rumor is Kev is cooking up some kind of 5.00 pot.

If i wanted just smallies i could just stay home and fish my lake.  they should be really coming is with this warmer weather.

guess what ever lake you end up on have fun and good luck to all.

I would like to hear more info on the Plaid Rabbit.

This is why I fish Kent Lk. The biggest smallie I ever caught. 6lbs? And my wife loves the Lake too. I never get any flax from the wife to go to Kent, as long as I bring her. ;) :D ;D ::) :P

Aaaaaah the Plaid Rabbit!
The girls wear little (short) plaid skirts (takes me back to my catholic school days) and unbuttoned button down shirts tied up tight to their bodascious tatas.
Actually I have never been their but I heard that it is good and that the above is one of the main attractions. Of course they have good food.....I think. ;D

HHHMMMMMMM   is it on Jefferson south of 12 mile.  looks like it could work after the DK.  any idea of boat parking

Let's see... about 11,000 lakes... and I've only fished maybe a couple hundred... I have a ways to go, but I do like messy reservoirs, particularly those with largemouth AND smallmouth. I like that I only burn about $40 in truck and boat gas instead of $150.

I get bored fishing anywhere too many times and I do get to fish St. Clair a lot. I live in the desert of Michigan right in the middle of the state so I get to go in all directions during the year... and I like it! ;D

I just haven't fish Kent Lake a lot, but I do remember that fall trip catching 18 inch smallies on slop baits in the shallow pads!!! Talk about a trip!!

I don't love Kent Lake. I just love them all!! Never met a lake I didn't like (although there are a few I don't fish all seasons... like Lake Lansing... when you're in the desert, a small lake can get pretty crowded in the summer - yech!). Though I do have my favorites :)

Some of us are bored easy... and some of us can fish the same lake over and over and over and over and over, and like it.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

I think I forgot the main reason I started fishing Kent (and spent so much time out there).  The April 1 opener it had.  I liked getting out early and catching pigs (legally).  I used to take April 1 off every year just to get out there.

You will now that you have that new boat.  I try to spend as much time as possible on the big water.  But even when the weather is less than favorable I still choose Long, Pontiac, Tipsico, Woodland, Lobdell, etc., over Kent.  I understand all the anemities that the Huron Clinton Metro Parks has to offer.  And I do support them by launching at Erie Metro Park and Metro Beach.  I just wanted to know what draws you guys there.  You guys definitely have made some great arguements for going there.  Please keep chiming in with reasons to convince me to go there more often than not.

Cheetam, PM me if you ever want to go to St. Clair.  In the spring I go there almost every weekend weather permitting and in between my son's soccer games.  I always am looking for someone to share expenses, especially in these tough economic times.  In the fall I tend to hit Erie more.  Actually I have never been to Brest Bay in the Spring, but plan on taking a trip there this spring.  A good friend of mine says that it can be as good as the Mile Roads if not better with a lot less fishing pressure.  When I make that trip, I will give a report.  It will probably take more than one trip though......and I have nothing but time.

You can catch big 6lb smallies on St. Clair too.  On Kent you may catch one in I don't know how many trips, but on St. Clair you have a chance to catch one or more on every trip.

Again fellas, keep chiming in.    :D

There's a lot of reasons Kent is so popular.  Location is foremost; access is right off an expressway.  Some like it as a "don't bother me" option compared to other SE MI lakes.  If I've got Cass for a summer tx, I always hope for rainy weather.  Otherwise, it's elbow to elbow.  I think the experimental C&R season in the past pushed some out there also.

Throw in some darn good bass fishing, and you've got a hot spot.

On the other hand, I hate the 10 MPH limit.  Takes forever to get to your spots.  Curse & a blessing, what can you say?

About the ramps.  Sorry, but power loading doesn't destroy properly designed/constructed ramps.  The average concrete on a ramp doesn't extend much further than the tires go on a boat trailer.  After that you've just got lake bottom.  If the concrete went out a few feet further, you wouldn't have the blow out hole form.

Thanks for the offer BD.  With my girls getting older, I should be able to get out more this year *fingers crossed*.  I'll be in touch...
