We got our Football mold in and are getting ready to modify it to hold the screw loc trailer keeper.  So in the meantime, we have to figure out which style hook we are going to use.  because we value all of your opinions, we thought we would ask your opinion on this matter.

Which hook style do you guys prefer in a football jig?  here are the two we are looking at right now.  both are a medium wire black nickel hook and both are Mustad Ultra Point.

or

I personally prefer the smaller gap hooks because it keeps the profile of the jig smaller and i like smaller profile jigs...but i also like oatmeal raisin cookies with melted american cheese on them.  so lets here your opinions.

Theres 2 sides to every story on things. always. i personally would go with option 2. a small profile jig is good i like them in some situations. but when you start putting rattles and trailers on things it gets a little crowded. For a football Jig i think option 2 would be best.. it has more play in what u can do with it and wont cram things up and lose fish. But like u, what do i know? i cant eat toast unless it has Peanut butter on it, or eggs without ketchsup.

I would prefer a 4/0-5/0 roundbend 60 degree flateye or the first choice you listed.

I like the top hook better for football jigs myself. Unless you are trying to build a really big bass jig only verses something a little more compact and versatile? I've had better luck hooking bass with the round bend.

Not sure which one sells better on football jigs though? Seems like I see more for sale with round hooks than the EWG.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Here we go.. 60 degree is better hook up % i think. thats what every tube head we throw is right. i guess it depends on your hookset methods really. 90 degree its gonna stand up better i will say that. 60degree is going to drag more. make a little more trouble on the bottom.. get things stirred up.like a craw does. its a hard choice. i would do them in both Brian.

Every Football Jig i have is a 90 degree. i would think youd go against the grain. on this but you are a god that gave me the Sickos. i wont doubt u for a minute.

I personnally like the first one since I fish it on spinning tackle.  But I also see uses for the wide gap when one adds rattles and a bulkier profile

I think it should depend on the size of the jigs.  On a 5/8oz or less I would like the smaller hook.  On a 3/4oz or bigger I would like the bigger hook.  There is something about having a big jig with a big hook when you are draggin a 1oz football in 25 fow.

Short answer...both.  ;D

Realistic answer...either will work fine, what is more cost effective?

I like option one for the main reason it fits better in my tackle box.  Also can you add some of that smeely stuff called BANG to my jigs.  I  not talking about the fish scent BANG I am talking ab out that fat cooks stuff it taste pretty good to me I believe the fish would love it.  Oh and no PORK Trailers all that swine disease and stuff.

Thanks,

I'll take hook number one.  Football jigs are a casting technique for me.  I get much better hooksets on casting jigs with a round bend.  EWG's seem better for close range or heavy cover.

dartag

I always wondered what the looked like without all the lead and skirt stuff on them.  i want to sign up for the Nemisis how to fish a Jig clinic.  went to the Cheetam crankbait clinic last week on Kent.  learned a lot.

bassfan586

option 2.  Especially if the jig is 1/2 oz or more.  More room for rattles and trailers.  Its all personal preference.  I have both styles in my box.
Got one!

PIGSMALLIE

option 1!! the smaller profile is nice ...But it all depends where and what im fishing for smallies or largies!!!!!

dashaver63

I Like option 1 better for football jigs, I actually like a 90 degree bend on all my jigs because I think when you cast and pitch them, and then drag them through cover, the position of the knot being higher on the jig head helps it stand up better making it look more like a crawdad in a defensive position. Just my opinion though.

Skip Johnson

Id like mine to be with option 1 in my 2 special colors, I just mailed you an order today for 75 jigs and 25 bags of stick worms, please add 25 football head jigs to it for an even 100 jigs.  :-*  ;D

Dang Skip, do you like jigs or what?

Even though I'm normally against him, I'm with Pigsmallie on this one. 60 degree round bend - the EWG will tend to make the jig fall over.
             ;D ;D ;D
Look past what they want you to see.

yep and especialy Nemesis jigs their SWEEEEEEEEEEET, now I gotta figure out what to do with the couple hundred "other" jigs I have.
