Jim Clauser and John Robiadek won the NBAA Detroit River today, June 20, 2009 with 5 smallmouth bass weighing 21.86 pounds good for $5,000. They also took 2nd big bass with a 5.41 pounder good for another $200.

Roy Randolph and his partner took 2nd with 5 smallies for 20.57 pounds to take $1,500.

Don Fowler and partner finished 3rd with 5 smallies for 20.15 pounds - I think they won $700 or $1,000. They also took 3rd big bass good for $170 with a 5.15 pound toad.

Overall big bass was a 5.45 pound smallmouth bass.

The top 12 finishers took money for the 89 boats that braved the rain and wind today. 12th place was 16.58 pounds. Another dozen teams or so had 15 pounds and up.

Full results and pictures should be up on the www.nbaa-bass.com web site soon.

Doug and I finished in the mid 20 places with just over 15 pounds despite the wind and missing or losing a good number of pecking bass. Though St. Clair is a great place to fish, it was a little squirrelly today, but still a pretty good day of fishing that started with my hooking a keeper on my first cast of the morning as soon as my bait hit the water... before I even had my hand on the reel handle ;D

This is a cool tournament with lots of future potential. The weigh-in was held right at St. Jeans ramp this year, but NBAA is looking at working with the city of Detroit closer again next year. Negotiations are ongoing.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

"Working with the city of Detroit"  That could be an exercise in frustration....   ;D

I agree... Why? I get the whole publicizing our sport to bring in new fishermen, but to drag 100 boat smack dab in the of a festival which is as stressful on our precious smallies as it is us is terrible IMO.
Maybe I'm grumpy with JL and I lousy finish but this year was great weighing in @ St. Jeans (besides weighing in @ St. Jeans) hint hint...

I'm just in favor of a 2010 Metro Beach Open....

No sense in getting excited since we have no idea if anything will change next year yet. Bigger sponsors mean bigger payouts. May or may not mean additional demands from those sponsors. I always look forward to bigger tournaments with better payouts.

I want to send out a big congrats to Roy Randolf for a great finish. I did not fish the tx. It was my 22nd wedding anniversary and the wife and I went downtown. We stayed at the new GT Casino Hotel and went to the Tiger game. Had a great time! Again congrats to Roy!

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.

Way to go Roy! Good finish.

Roy Randolph

Thanks guys! I had to come early and watch all the fish being weighed and not knowing if our weight would hold up but seeing big names weighing 16, 17 and 18 pound bags had me feeling like we had a chance but with just a few bags left to weigh in Jim & John set their bag down next to me and asked if I thought I was still in the lead. The next few words I said can't be repeated here, got to love friends and their ability to yank your chain.  :'(

Way to go Jim and John!

And Wags if your partner can fish this Saturday's tournament "the day after his wedding" I have to question your dedication to this sport! J/K bud Congrats and see you this Sat.  ;D
Help a handicapped angler live his dream!

MadWags

Thanx for the congrats guys. Roy after 22 years of marriage you tend to understand when your wife will be upset if you go fishing. ;D
