I'm looking at a 1996 Skeeter zx-190c with a 200 merc efi.

Boat is in good shape and everything works.

Has 3 lowrance units, jackplate, etc.....

boat is blue with red accents.

the guy im looking to buy from wants $9,000.

What do you guys think?  Should I buy it? :-\'

I have a 200 Merc EFI and haven't had any problems with it.  Can't speak about the Skeeter, but I'd feel good about the motor.  I'd test drive it for sure.

The efi motors are strong and dependable.  Not familiar with the Skeeter boats, but they are known for good stable platforms but a rougher than normal ride in big water.  It should be a good fishing boat though.

for that price there has to be something wrong with it. If you don't buy it let me know ;D

Yeah..... I was thinking the same thing.  But he agrees to let me take the boat to nearby lake and run it and do whatever I want to it before I put the check in his hand.

Hopefully I'm not getting someone's problem, cheap or not.

Can you guys think of anything else I should be on the lookout for before handing over the check?

If the boat is legit, It's definitely a great buy at 9,000.  I have also had good experiences with the efi motor, had one on my triton a 175 with no probs.

???

Thanks again guys........

I have heard good things about th EFI.  If you are serious, I would pay the fee to have a dealer look at the motor - compression check the cylinders.  Also, pull the bottom plugs out and see if there is any metal(silver) on them.  you want to make sure the motor is not blown or about to, even if it runs.  WEll worth the $150 or so to have it professionally inspected.

It's a buyer beware market and it pays to get some professional advice even if it cost the price of a new reel. Had a skeeter and they are a quick boat. Nobody ever beat me out of the hole. Friend of mine has a newer skeeter and loves it.

Check the age of the batteries (mostly so you know if you will have another expense soon or not). Check the lights to see if they work - same reason mostly.

Check all the pumps/livewells. Leave some water in them when you pull out and see if they hold water or leak bad (new valves needed maybe).

Check the transom inside and out for large cracks and any play or softness. Should be okay, but you never know for sure. Are the motor bolts tight? If not, have they been left loose for a while (can wallow out the holes over time).

Are all the compartment lids tight - no wobble?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.
