If you like fishing for fall smallmouth bass in northern Michigan, you might want to check out the new video posted on this site.  GreatLakesBass.com head honcho, Dan Kimmel, makes a case for using spinnerbaits to haul in huge bronzebacks.  Plus, Dan explains what to look for when trying to locate areas that have the potential for trophy smallies.

It's in the video section of the website.   It's titled, Burning a Spinnerbait for Fall Smallmouth.

You know... I stumble along, tripping over my words and saying things like YEEHAW ANOTHER BIGUN... and then cameraguy comes along with his special talent for video and editing and makes me look like I actually have some idea about this fishing thing we're all hooked on. Thanks cameraguy!!

I'll make it convenient for those of you who haven't been fortunate enough yet to travel to one of our many big smallie fishing locations we are blessed with here in the Great Lakes by posting a link to watch the video right here:

One of the main reasons I keep GreatLakesBass.com going is so we can all share fishing stories, tips and techniques with each other. Remember, you can upload your own video on our video service to share with everyone. I'll highlight those our 'panel' chooses for everyone throughout the year. And stay tuned for more Video Fishing Tips.

Great video, you looked very natural on camera..Do I see "Great Lakes Bass Fishing" coming to VS soon??? ;D

I think you guys did a great job on that video!  I love it!  I have a lot of questions for you both that we can talk more about on Sunday too.  I want to know how long you filmed out there to get 10 minutes of good video?  The editing and music are really good too.

Thanks guys. Means a lot to me. cameraguy is a pro. He is a full-time freelance camera man with a ton of editing experience so he gets 92% of the credit. Whether he can make it or not Sunday is up in the air at the moment, but I can talk about a little more then if he doesn't make it as far as some of things we've done to prepare and get the footage. It's work, but fun work compared to a lot of other things we can be doing :).

cameraguy is the expert as far as equipment (he has a bunch of all types) and getting the right shots, setup, work afterwards. I always feel there's some intuition and art to doing the right things with a camera. He's a natural at that kind of thing.

As far as the future... you just never know. I've put in a bunch of behind the scenes work so opportunities that arise can be attempted. I'm a schemer and sometimes actually get things done ;D. cameraguy has that knowledge to actually do stuff. Put us together and who knows. We are already working on a number of things. Just a matter of doing the work and the time to get it done. I don't spell out much because we also change our minds every other day - safer anymore to just announce it when it's done ;D

I always hope to add to the amount of information available to visitors and members of my web sites. It's fun. I may ask a few of you over the winter for your suggestions and review of some redesign and features. Maybe a few other ideas too. Just depends on the time available :)

AND of course, I would LOVE to have more videos submitted from all of you. It does not have to be a big production. We all have something to offer and share with each other.

I'll be posting more simple and short video over the winter just so we can spend some more fishing time together when we aren't able to actually be on the lake or river.

I will improve the video section of the web site over time to be more user friendly and highlight members submissions better. I do not want to only use Youtube as a video solution. I have learned (the hard way a couple times) that relying too much on others for your services can be very risky and problematic, especially 'free' services. Video is intensive, expensive and somewhat complex to program so it will take some time to get there. I don't have the budget Google or similar companies have to implement that type of thing :)

But like all you, I have the fishing addiction / bug but good, so I'll keep plugging away as long as a bunch of you come hang out here too. Thanks!!

Nice vid Dan and Cameraguy.  Good tip on the heavy line.  I don't go as heavy as 25lb, but use 17lb pretty regularly when chucking/burning spinnerbaits (especially the 3/4 ounce baits).

Very nice and well done gentlemen!  Dan, you make it look so easy that even I may be able to do that!!!

Thanks guys. Funny River Rat! I bet you are pretty good at the fishing stuff.

As far as the heavier line, a few times the difference in the catch rate has been enough to make me think it can make a difference. I get to the point where I compromise and go with the 17 for all around spinnerbaiting, but I remember the times when that catch rate difference was dramatic and had me wondering if the heavier line helped somehow to make such a difference to the bass. I particularly think of a day on Charlevoix where I was culling all day - 1st place, big bass, and my partner only landed two with the most obvious difference being the line??

The bass won't talk so I can only wonder about it...?

Nice work gentlemen, only thing that would have made that video better would have been a more handsome host.....I am available on Mondays

djkimmel

How disappointing... Monday is the only day we are not able to tape... ;D

Awesome video Dan  !!!!!  Were you waving at one of your many fans about the 8 minute mark????  You and KVD just can't keep the boats off of you.  lmbo.  I thought it was pretty neat the joyful emotions you had when catching those dandy fish.

Thanks Jeff and Wendy. I was actually shaking after that first one and seeing the other 2 actually with it. I was lucky to land 3 big ones in about 20 minutes as soon as we started. I was so excited I ruined some of the tape. Thank goodness cameraguy (Mark) is really good at what he does.

I forget who that was down the edge a little but I try to be friendly when I remember (you know the getting older and forgetful disease ;D). They were looking my way and I can't help but feel a little self conscious when we are taping.

More to come. cameraguy is being very popular right now (getting the good paying kind of work) so it will be a bit before we get another out. I'm looking forward and hoping to see more from all of you!

North of Ludington across to Alpena is some of the world's best smallmouth bass fishing. Lots of choices. I will be 'testing' more of them in couple weeks (thank goodness).
