Hello all,

I'm getting ready to pick up a chip for the 997 bird mounted at the console. I just thought I would get a few peoples thoughts on what they are running ?
When I was up at Burt / Mullet I talked to some folks that were running the Navionics HotMaps Platinum East. Im not sure if this is overkill or not with the 1' contours ? Please give me your .02 thanks

The only chip that i currently have is a lakemaster Michigan chip in my Lowrance up front and That chip is 3 years old.

No such thing as overkill when it comes to electronics. Buy that chip!

Take a look at the Lakemaster for Humminbirds, I think you'll be impressed as I was.

I run a 997 with the Navionics Hotmaps Premium East chip.  The main reason I didn't the Platinum was most the HD lakes I don't fish and the Premiums were on sale for $99 at the time.  I've been nothing but happy with the entire package.

I run the Navionics Premium East.  Works great, the 1' countours are nice around the Erie islands, ect.  I don't have the "platinum" version so I don't get all of the 1' contours.

Bender

I too ran the Premium East. I had the Platinum for Michigan and sold it. The high def. maps were really nice but I never really used the satellite image overlays. The problem I had was that maybe only once or twice a year I actually went to a lake with an HD map. It makes me wonder about the lakes they chose to create the HD maps of because I would think that lakes in the SE of Michigan would have a lot more anglers than all of the ones way up north.

The deciding factor for me between Navionics and Lakemaster would be which chip covers the lakes that you fish. I ran both before and liked the Lakemaster maps better but they didn't cover a lot of the lakes I fished in Livingston County.

Up front I have a fishing hotspots chip and at the console I have Navionics Gold.

I have an older unit. The graphs on the boat are older too. I will be upgrading soon. And taking Viagra.

If I"m networking the bow with the console, can the chips in each unit be different, or do they need to be the same?
So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

They can be different.  Networks only share waypoint data - not map data.

just replaced my 798 and was going to order the Navionics pkg, but my expert at Three Rivers Marine said to save the $$$ and go with the new 2010 chip...lake east, excellent and saved over $100. thank you Justin
