As reported in the Detroit News 6:12PM June 23, 2010:
Asian carp pass barrier toward Great Lakes

Washington -- A bighead carp has been found in Illinois' Lake Calumet, about six miles north of an electric barrier set up to stop the invasive fish from entering the Great Lakes.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Maybe only time will tell what the cost to our fantastic fishing will be. Many predict doom and it is a hot issue with Congress and environmental/conservation groups as any invasive species issue should be.

I have talked to at least one research biologist who does not think the species will thrive in the Great Lakes due to their biological requirements. Hard to believe that prediction considering how well other carp species have done in our waters.

An education campaign will probably need to be continued to try to keep people from using them as bait or other possible transport methods into disconnected waters.
