Saw a tourney on OLN and the one guy they were talking to was using speed clips on his hardbaits.  Does anybody here use them and doe it affect the action much?

fiker

I used to use what I think are called Bill Norman clips.  I actually lost several baits where the clip came undone.

I now use a clip that has no swivel.  It works great, and seems to not affect the action much.

I started using them, after a seminar I went to given by KVD on jerkbaits.  He said that he uses them all the time.  He never direct ties.

So much water.  So many lures.  So little time.

I've been using them for the last couple of years and haven't had any problems. I don't use them on topwaters or spinnerbaits.

I don't think they change the action of the baits, at least not that I can tell. I seem to catch as many fish now as I did before I used them.

Peace.

I have been using them for 5 or 6 years now in that time I have lost two baits due to the clip coming un done (May have been me) But its a lot less then when I tied directly to to the "O" ring

I remove the O rings and use just the clip and the action is just the same

And I'm not sure what clip flicker50 is talking about the bill norman speed clips do not have a swivel so maybe a little more intel please

and I will say you save a ton of time swapping baits with the clip compared to if you had to retie each time

I still tie directly to spinner baits and topwater as well as any plastics but when your trying to find a hard bait bite this is the cats.......

Hey I am going to BPS this weekend. What kind of speedclips you guys use and about how much are they. I usually just direct tie those jerbaits but would love to try some speed clips. Just let me know the kinds and I try some out.thanks guys
Your either getting better or worse you never just stay the same

Also, what size? they have them on bps web site but they are numbered for size, no measurements given.

Revtro

I tried speed clips, but after losing several baits because of them coming undone, I stopped.  I now just use a clip with no swivel like fiker and it works great.  Speedclips do have a reputation for coming undone.  I just don't trust them after losing several $15 baits with them.  Grr.  A regular clip with no swivel is just as easy and quick to use to change baits and they are so lightweight, that I don't think they affect the action at all.  Just get the small ones.

The ones I use are black stainless Duo Lock Snaps, size 51, rated at 20#. They measure 1/2 inch long and 3/16 inch wide at the widest point. They DO NOT have a swivel.

I paid $4.99 for a pack of 36 at Bass Pro Shops. I change mine any time I re-tie and I inspect them later and re-use them if I am sure they are not damaged. I have thrown very few away. They are very durable.

I have never lost a lure, or a fish, due to the snap failing, knock on wood.
Peace.
