LSC skunked me today.

Well, I made the trip across the state, only to be skunked.  During the DK Open, I only fished in the Selfridge area, and was awed by how big the lake was.  Today, I found the Mile Roads for the first time.  WOW!  That lake is ginormous!  When we started out, the lake was pretty calm, at about 6:30.  By 8, the waves were every bit of 2 feet or better.  I caught a big goose egg.  My dad got a muskie, lm, and a sm.  It is really hard to go over there blind, not having a map or gps, or much knowledge of the lake, and expecting to catch fish.  My trip was cut short at 4 hours, when I hit something in the lake and broke the hub for my prop.  OOPS.  The really crappy part is that I was so excited, that i couldn't sleep last night.  So, as I type this I have been up for 40 hours straight.  Oh well, at least I got over there.

Well... that is not as good a report as I hoped you have. Sorry to hear about the prop problem. Wonder what you hit?

I have no idea what i hit, but my prop sure shows it.  I can still run it, but it's got a nice battle scar now.  It made the motor stall when I hit it, so I got it good. ???

after the storms it could have been anything.  I missed a 8" tree floating vertically.  The end was just underwater.  Was almost on top of it before I saw it.  At least you didn't damage your lower unit.
Got one!

Mike S.

I'm greatful for not damaging my lower unit for sure.  I just spent 400 bucks on that 2 weeks ago because it leaked from every seal.  Oh, the joys of buying used boats.  You were out there yesterday, Bassfan?

Firefighter Jeff

Sorry about the fishing and the floater.  First time or two I got out on LSC by myself I felt very over whelmed.  ALL that water.  But slowly but surely I'm getting to know it better.  I've only fished a couple places in Canadien waters and nothing north of Metro beach, but I can usually find a few fish. Get yourself a map and save for the gps,  (I am)
If you don't make it back with your Dad this season, make sure to take him next spring.  Even I can catch a lot of fish then.  The fishing at the DK open was not normal for that time of year.

Yeah, there is WAY more water than I thought.  At lunch yesterday, I sat down with mikesmiph, River Rat, and MIBasskid, and we talked about LSC.  They know more than I do about it, and surprised me with some of the things said.  I am going to get myself some maps, and the gps will be on the boat soon.  I have a lot to learn about fishing in general, but talking with more serious tournament anglers is helping me out tremendously.  This weekend was horrible for me at LSC and here at home.  Oh well, everybody has a bad one sometime, right?

I have seen whole trees on the St Clair river.....

Last year I hit something hard up in Marine City...Just about tore the wheel out of my hand but the only damage it did was a very small chip in my lower unit housing and a ding on my prop...Had my wife and daughter with me on that one so it was a little scary..

I fished with a Ranger pro that had about a 6 inch hole ripped in the pack lower corner of his transom on a brand new boat with only about 10 hours on it....Hit something on the Detroit river...

So you are not alone.....

Wayne Carpenters maps and books are a great place for someone new to start out with on LSC....I use them quite a bit for reference...I used one last year to round out a limit on my way back into the launch during a tournament....
