Comes from behind to beat the field and Reese. What can you say other than he's the king!

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Unbelievable, 6 time AOY, 3 in a row. Will anyone ever top that?

He hasn't beaten anyone until he tops 9 AOYs.  Remember Roland Martin had won that title 9 times.  In the modern day you could say he is king, but until he wins 10 AOYs, he hasn't beaten the real champ..............Roland.  I am not taking away anything from KVD, but facts are facts.  He isn't the greatest until he has won 10. Then you can say he is king.  I will say this though..............KVD is amazing!!!!!    :o

Actually there were more. KVD did tie Roland for career wins at 19. Not taking anything away from Roland, but the level, if not number of anglers, is certainly higher today. I get the thing about "Old Guys Rule," but KVD rocks the Casbah!

i don't get the whole AOY thing.... skeet was the AOY. KVD just beat him in 12 boat tournament. Kudos to him for pulling it off, but if you look at the "YEAR", skeet put him (and everyone else) to shame.

it really does take the meaning out of AOY, BASS keeps changing some part of the format every few years or so and id wish they would stop it. Classic in the spring, new AOY format or elimination of the E50s, Majors...they keep trying to make it like all other sports. it bugs me everytime they change something IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT but thats just me.

i guess my point is AOY seems to me should be the guy that "won" the regular season. Skeet utterly dominated this year - like him or not - but he beat a field of hundreds numerous times.... only to lose it in 2 12 boat tournaments? if they want to do some top-12 shootouts or whatever to have something to do before the classic that's fine - but don't call it the angler of the year.

BASS is owned by a media giant. They make money from these events and the anglers also make out fairly well too. Granted Skeet's year may never be matched, but bottom line professional fishing's foundation is marketing. Use to be you were NFL Champions now you have to go through a long play off and are not the king unless you win the Super Bowl despite how well you did in the regular season.

I agree with "thedude".   Skeet spanked everyone all year long, only to lose AOY in 2 small tournaments..??   It's just not fair in my eyes.

But, KVD is our Michigan home boy and the best angler I've ever seen play the game.    Roland was very lucky KVD wasn't around back in the day......KVD would have spanked him too!

Not sure I buy that Roland was lucky (that many times), but its the same story in any sport - trying to compare the 'ol heros with modern day stars. We'll just never know. I also lean towards not liking the current format for AOY, but on the other hand that IS how most sports crown the champion. We all like the growth of our hobby in many respects but there are gonna be issues that come up (like this). Not sure how much more KVD wants to accomplish - he has the fame, fortune and many records - but if his body can take it another 10-15 yrs there won't be any category without his name on it. And I remember filming a few commercials with him as a first year, potty-mouthed pro. Glad he got that under control for the tv cameras!

i thought the champion was the guy who won the classic?

if they want to do a post season, they should open up the number of classic qualifiers from the various channels, host say 4 120 boat "round 1" playoffs. take the top 40, have 2 "round 2" playoffs with 80 boats and then the top 20 from each fish the classic

i know they won't because its much easier to film and market 12 elite series guys in 2 AOY events than it is to have coverage of 120 boat tournaments with no-names in them. Does however open the door to getting some new faces and underdogs into the big show.

America is the land of the underdog. You can't only show the big name megastars all the time or people will fade away and look for something else to follow.

There has to be opportunities for a cinderella story now and then to pop up.

MIBassKid

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. I think they should have a postseason like the rest of sports, but don't call it Angler of the Year, we all know Skeet was truly the best angler throughout the entire year. With that being said, they had two events in his home state and he did very well. If they were to hold two events in Michigan, simply lights out, not even fair. But props to Kevin for doing what he does best, putting his head down and getting the business done. Kev if you read this and you need to find a new home for that new boat just let me know ;) MSU Bass team could use one! Or two!
