I am in a club from Elkhart,In. and we are going to be up on Lake Hamlin the week of Sept. 20th to the 26th. Does anyone have a good fishing report for that time of year and what to throw to catch good smallies up there? some good spots would be helpful.

Firefighter Jeff

There are some nice smallies in Hamlin, but I'm not sure I'd specifically target them.  There are many more largemouth in there.  I am planning on fishing it a day or so after the DK Open on White lake the week before you go.  I can give you a report and some tips then.  Make sure to email me September 14th or 15th.  Jsreg23@aol.com     Put Hamlin Lake in the subject heading. Oh, and by the way I live in Mishawaka, neighbor.  lolol

ScottK

Hey Jeff. That would be awesome. I really appreciate it. Where at in Mishawaka. I live in Summer Chase over by Jimtown High School. Let me know if you ever want to get out sometime to fish.

Firefighter Jeff

I live on the southeast side of town.  Just off Capitol a mile south of Lincolnway.  To be honest I don't fish a lot around here.  Mostly in Michigan on trips.  I do hit the river for steelies the end of Sept and October though.  We can get out some time if you want.

ScottK

Sure that would be great. Hit me up on that Hamlin report when you go up there. Thank you.

Firefighter Jeff

lololol  Don't count on me remembering to contact you.  Like I said email me Sept 14th or 15th

I'm going to move this to inland lakes where a few other people who frequent Hamlin Lake might notice it and pipe in (like Dan).

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

The other Dan. Who lives up there. And talks about Hamlin like it is the St. Clair of the West!! And goes by the user name Dan... ;D

I haven't been there in years and years...

sounds like a great place for a DK open. fun lake been there a few times. i your camping at the state campground look out for the raccoons they know how to unlock coolers and unzip tents. fought one off with my shoe. hahaha fat lil bass tird he was

Andy

Just got back from Hamlin was up there for 2 weeks camping at the state park. As of right now the lake is a mess from a lot of wind. Saw a club weight in last Saterday and only 3 limits, not so good for the lake this time of year.

Firefighter Jeff

I'm up here right now.  Fished 4 hours yesterday and only caught 4 smallies with two being keepers (15 inches) and one sheepy.  Weather was stormy today.  Got out tonight for just 45 minurs and got a 2 1/2 pound lgmouth and lost one other..It's tough.

ScottK

You guys are starting to kill my attitude on going up there the week of September the 20th. Our tournament is on the 25th and 26th. Kepp me posted please.

ScottK

Has anyone tried any Lucky Craft Jerk baits, or tubes?

Firefighter Jeff

I got the smallies and sheepy on green tubes  The largemouth on a spinnerbait close to dark.

ScottK

are the smallies up yet? try using a drop shot. try the sand flats. let me know how that works.

ScottK

What about drop shotting? Try jerk baits on the sand dune flats. Usually in the mornings you can catch them on pop r's. let me know how it goes. Thanks Jeff.

Firefighter Jeff

Sorry Scott.  Unless I change my mind by morning I won't be out on Hamlin this trip.  I'm thinking about hitting the PM for Salmon in the am.  I fished Manistee lake/river today for bass.

MIBassKid

Hey Jeff let me know how you do on the river. Not very many fish there this past weekend.

Firefighter Jeff

Hey Luke,

I actually fished PM Lake.  It's right here in Ludington.  I fished in the back end, somewhat close to where the river comes in.  I did very well.  Saw quite a few fish caught.  I threw inline spinners for them and went 4 for 6.  They ran 5,7,9 and 10 plus pounds.  Here is a pic.    Jeff
