I had a good time and thanks Dan for your hard work to put this together for the GLB members. For next year I really like the idea of having the fall DK open in northern michigan. I know its a long drive for most and that might cause some members to skip it but I am positive you will get atleast 20 people probably more. Alot of guys plan trips up there anyways and the fishing does not get any better. Most would make a weekend out of it anyways because its well worth it. Make the date in October and the fishing will be better and less tournaments to schedual around. Just a thought...

How many like an idea like that?

I like the idea.  I wouldn't make it too late in October.  Could get some nasty weather by then.  It would take me about 5 hours depending on where we went, but If I can get around working I'll go  !!

i would like that. however don't take my vote with much weight since i haven't made the west side event yet. Too much going on in sept for me is all.

How about October? Shooting stuff? Sitting in front of a fire?

How about a little more central? Like Wixom? Of course it will be the only weekend I have to work in 2011!  >:(

djkimmel

Did Wixom before. I've promised to hold an east and west, not a central. If I do go somewhat central it will still need to be the west side of the center line to be fair to members on the west side of the state.

BTW, my number one city in traffic now in Michigan is Grand Rapids.

Leelanau or any lakes near traverse city in early October would be sweet! Everyone should catch big smallies and alot of them, definitely worth making a weekend out of it. I think the best way to get more people interested in the west DK open is fish our best inland lakes. That time of year on this side of the state its north around traverse city and I would be very willing to spend the extra money on expenses to fish up there with you guys for a couple days. I always spend a couple weekends up there anyways that time of year and the fishing is phenomenal, I actually like it more than spring.
FISH HARD!!!

Of course we'll be there. Wherever, whenever. And, if I can find her a rainsuit, we might even stay all day lol.

Duck, Long and Green lakes up in Interlochen are nice sized lakes for an event like the DK opens...
There are really nice campgrounds close and reasonable hotels that time of year.....
Both lakes have a good mix of both Largemouth and Smallmouth and you can fish just about any way you want for them.....
There are also alot of family activities in the area if people decide to make a mini vacation out of it...The Great Wolf Lodge and Avalanche Bay both have indoor water parks that you can pay by the day...Obviously Traverse city area has just about an endless amount of things to do...

My wife Graduates in December so hopefully next fall I will have more free time.....

It all depends on school, work, the wife, and hunting season.  If I can find time to go, I would prefer to travel North.

I'm in. Maybe we can get a bunch of rooms or campsites and make it a party.

In Traverse City there is a Super 8 right next door to Hooters.  I think I still have a key!!  Spent a few too many nights there as you can tell, but it's a nice retreat after fishing all day, unless everyone plans on bringing the family along.

Torch lake Motel is right across from the ramp on the south end of torch at the entrance to the torch river. The owners are great and discount rooms that time of year. From there you can fish torch, the river, skegmog, elk, clam, belville, lakes. great water and big smallies!

Mike S.

Hopefully the fishing is worth it.  That would put me at close to 3 hours of driving to fish either DK Open (I believe.  I don't exactly know how far these lakes are from here.).

dartag

drove back from torch lake 2 weeks ago.   that is a long slow drive on M72.   wonder why they never built a freeway over that way.

That's about right Mike.  It takes me 1 1/2 hours to get to Green/Duck from Ludington.  Torch and the others are north of Traverse City and add about 45 minutes.

Frank

I in for anything.  My opinion doesn't count all that much though as weather or not I go is totally dependant on work not location.  I'd drive 10 minutes or 4 hours, if I have the day off that is.

Hey Dan, I think it's time to add a third tournament. 2011 North DK Open! We could go north, in the early fall and west, towards the end of fall.
