Schooling minnows...?

So on Friday afternoon I declared a "floating" holiday. I'm out there throwing a spinnerbait and look down to see hundreds of minnows, nice tip-up size, following my spinnerbait  - where ever it goes. Like the huge flocks of black birds in the fall that all move together. I figure eighted it, burned it and slow rolled it - there they were no matter what. What's up with that?
Look past what they want you to see.

You must have been using a really good color...?

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Water was moderatley clear, 62' surface temp. Was using smoke blades/white skirt. Plain old shiner minnows, 3-5" long. Dangdest thing I've seen in quite a while.

The important question to ask you: did bass bite your bait while this was happening?

I'd like to put it off to some complex genetic trait or effect, but then I remember even a big bass' brain is smaller than a pea...

I usually end up thinking they just think they are following their Momma!
