Some very exotic (to us) fishing down under. I watch Fishing Western Australia now and then. Love the accent. Barramundi fishing is on my todo list. Just have to figure out how to pull that off some day...

Team houston

Yes, I have always wanted to fish for barrimundi in FNQ

djkimmel

Maybe we'll make that trip some day too Team houston! I met an outfitter in Mexico a couple years ago who does Africa, Europe and SE Asia. I saved his name and number. His website is in Dutch though so hard to read :)

What's with the news these days on the TV and the radio. Can't find the truth amongst the lies. Some talking head that claims to live their life in a better way, says I have to compromise. But now there's something on the rise. Truth has opened up my eyes. There's no running from your dirty lies. You can't avoid the truth. I'll no longer close my eyes.

Thanks Everybody!!

I live in Brisbane, Queensland so the Barramundi aren't that far away!!  About 4 or so hours by car.  We have a couple of lakes here that are stocked with fish up to and in some instances 4.5' long!!  As a point of interest Phil Strader (FLW Pro) came to Australia a few years ago and won the Barramundi tournament trail!!  I am really busting to get over to the U.S one day to fish your Great Lakes!

Thanks again everyone I appreciate it!!

Hey Colin,  Do you know Mick Dundee???  lol  Just askin   ;D  Welcome to the site !!

Colin Linton

Thanks again.....lol.

We have a Lake St Clair here too however it would not be as big as yours nor would the fish........lol.

Mick Dundee.......I wish....lol.  He spends most of his time over there in the U.S. these days!! Had some trouble with our Tax Department here!

As for fishing here in Australia I will endeavour to put together a direct comparison to Bass here and over there.

A couple of interesting points though in relation to Bass fishing:

Heaviest line fished here around 15lb
Lightest line fished here 2lb (extreme finesse...lol.)
Average line fished here 6-10lb
Longest Plastics fished for Bass 4" (worm style available up to 6"not generally used though)
Average Plastic fished for Bass 2-3"
Popular techniques: Spinnerbaits, Soft Plastics, Lipless Cranks, Crankbaits around the 3-4", Topwater up to 4".

There is probably a heap more to tell but I thought I would keep it short and sweet for this reply.

Thanks again it will take me a week just to get through all the topics on this forum  :o  Which is great!!

The recent unread topic button will become your best friend.  If you see a topic with more than 20 replies, read it even though it might not be something you care about.  After about 15 posts they seem to go way off toupic, but are well worth reading.  Welcome to the forum.

Colin Linton

Thanks Frank,

You are so right!!  The forum template used here is the same as some of the forums I frequent here in Australia so thats a great thing.  I am a bit of a forum junkie so like to soak up as much as I can!!

Nothing better than reading about fishing at the moment.  Due to the recent flooding here in Queensland all my Bass spots have been decimated and most of the lakes are closed to all activity so reading is the closest I get to fishing....lol.

Colin- I'm kind of a crankbait fanatic, and one of the things i like to look at are some of the Australian tackle making sites.  You guys have some really cool looking hardbaits.  Pretty unique when compared to stuff we have (or, maybe ours is more unique than the stuff you have... :D).
Jeff

Colin Linton

Cheetam,

I spend countless hours looking at U.S tackle, so I guess to me, yours is more unique!!  ;D. Let me know if there is something in particular you like the look of!!  It's interesting to see the contrasts in tackle from around the world.

For instance we use spinnerbaits with a frequent regularity here however Jigs are unheard of..............I have heard of a few people trying them but that is very few and far between (not available in tackle shops)...........I am going to spend this year fishing larger soft plastic baits and Swim Jigs etc in a bid to crack the code.  I cannot see any reason why our Bass wouldn't take a 7"+ worms or for that fact a Jig when they are essentially a spinnerbait without the blades!!  Sometimes you've got to go against the grain!

Thanks for your post!!

as an additon to that!

If there was one technique that I would love to try when I finally get to the U.S for a fish it would have to be "Flippin a Jig" in timber.  Not sure why but jigs have me intrigued and something that is on my "Bucket List"

djkimmel

If you give me enough advance notice, we could do an international fishing video with you visiting GreatLakesBass.com in the US flipping timber. That would be fun. We don't have a ton of lakes in Michigan that way, but more than enough to make your dream come true. You bring an entertaining Aussie accent and I'd provide the timber! ;D

Jigs are big bass killers. I bet barrimundi would cream a bass / swim jig.
