Stadic CI4 2500

Hey fellas,
In the market for a great lightweight spinning reel to pair up with my soon to be completed drop shot rod and had my eye on a Stradic CI4.Have been using Daiwa for years but am interested in the Stradic.Only downfall that i can see with it is the eva handle.

I bought a 1000 last year for a panfish outfit and really loved the reel. I just bought a 2500 to put on a dropshot rod and will see how it works out in the spring.

i have a 2500 and $200 BPS gift cards to buy a 1000.  i was thinking the 1000 would be the dropshot reel.  i think its about an ounce lighter than the 2500.  ooh boy!

im thinking that the 1000 might be a bit too small for some of the toads on the Erie and LSC...by the way, i meet you up at the Novi show and picked up some of your gobies(love em)your new hand poured worms and 2 sizes of the upskirt jigs.cant wait to give em a try man.gonna be fishin the BFL as a co this year for the first time so im sure that they will get a good thrashin.

I would not go with a 1000 if you plan on using Flourocarbon line...It will be  more apt to line twist...

I have a 2500 CI4 and also a brand new 4000 CI4....The 4000 isn't that much heavier and seems to resist the line twist with Flouro alot better.....I really like them both...Not substantially better than a Stradic but worth the extra few bucks...

If you look closely at some of the "Spinning reel" pros on TV like Ike, Martens, etc..You will see that alot of them are going to oversize spinning reels on some of their rigs to help battle line twist issues....

I love my CI2500.  Very light, and able to handle big fish with ease.  I use mine for finesse plastics on fluorocarbon and it handles line well with little twist.  The EVA handle takes some getting used to since I fish with Reel Grips on all my reels, but it is comfortable.

sorry bu Im hooked on the old Stadic 2500 - white, before magnesium etc ... tanks.

But there is still line twist with floro and it drives me nuts. I snap off too many tubes per day to keep a snap swivel near the hook. SO im at a loss.

another option, if your buying on line is the FireBlood.  It came out before the CI but is only available in Japan, unless you use Ebay.  I think you can still get it on the Shimano website under Shimano Japan

i use power pro braid on my dropshot applications so the line twist thing isnt an issue.i'll check out the fire blood...crazy how the japanese market gets some cool stuff that us americans have to go searching for.i was stationed in Japan for a year and a half and i remember going into the music stores over there and finding hidden jems that we dont have access to. thanks for the input ya'll.

i use fireline with a flouro leader so i am not worried about line twists either, but those are good points that i did even think about.  good tips guys.

Almost all of my spinning reels are symetres.  They have lasted me for years with little or no maintenance.  I have them in 2000, 2500, and 4000. 

I use the 2500's on my ds rod, light crankbait,  wacky,m and my senko rod.

The 4000 is on my tube rod.  It gives the rod the added weight needed to balance it in my hand.

I've never noticed being uncomfortable with the weight of the 2500.  The 4000 is a little on the heavy side, but doable.

I've learned to be very careful about closing the bail by hand.  With all fluorocarbon, I do get line twist.  Especially with a Texas rigged weightless fluke.

I've been tempted to experiment with the other manufacturers that utilize a larger spool to theoretically reduce line twist.   If it works I wonder why Shimano doesn't offer it.

Most guys I know that use braid with a flouro leader use a double uni or blood knot. It works great. They spool up with braid and add about a 10 foot leader of 10lb fluoro. No twists and super feel with no stretch.

You should give the WaveSpin reel a try. Very good on the line twists. Virtually eliminates bird nests with fluorocarbon line. And totally eliminates them with mono. Ive said this before, if anyone on this site would like to try one out Ive got some used ones that I could let you try out. Just PM me if you want to try one out.

I use the Stradic Ci4 and 2500FH with Power Pro (20# test/6# diameter) with 6# or 8# BPS or P-line fluoro leader that I tie directly with a double UNI knot.  Line twist is inevitable with the set-up, especially with weightless plastics.  To minimize it, I always close the bail by hand and at the end of the day let out the last 30' or so and let it unwind without any weight or lure on the end as I reel it in.

Also, to save $$ on braid, pre-spool with 10 or 12# mono before adding the braid.

I tie direct most of the time. I tried a swivel but I can't help but reel it into the guide. I use a double uni knot and usually about a 6 foot leader.
