Me, McCarter, Bender, and Jason Fowler decided on Guntersville for our winter trip this year. I have been keeping up on the guide reports for the the last 2 weeks and it was becoming clear that we were going to time it wrong for the big girls to really show up. Looking back if we do this again we should time it on the full moon in March since the fishing was tough.

I fished with Bender all 3 days, the first day was warm with temps in the high 60s and a 20-30mph wind out of the south. First thing in the morning I missed a giant that hit when I bumped a branch with my chatterbait.

She pulled drag at will and came off quickly. We didn't have much more action until later in the day when we hit a steep riprap bank I wanted to hit after the crowd thinned out. The wind was blowing hard into the almost vertical rock wall that went 10 foot straight down. The water temp here was 57-58 with clearer water. What also made this area look promising was what looked to be a route to one small bridge which was the only entrance to spawning grounds in the creek arm in the back. I decided to go with the bait I really did not want to throw on Guntersville but thought it was the best choice due to the ridiculous amount of pressure this place gets, a Nemesis shakey head worm. The amount of bass boats on this lake is unimaginable! We got on some fish but they seemed to be all 2-4 pound males mostly on the small side. We ended up with 25-30 in the last few hours of the day.

The second day it was cold with temps in the high 40s and a 15-25mph wind out of the north. We decided to try a different area and headed to roseberry creek. We started ripping lipless  near the entrance in some fresh green grass we found and same story as the first day I miss another giant that slammed my XRK50 peeled drag at will with some big headshaking and came off quickly. I chalked that miscue up to using a MH rod and braid which I was using to feel my bait ticking the grass and allow me to rip it free. We eventually picked up a small limit but I missed the one that counted again. We headed in and randomly picked an arm of the creek and on my second cast I got a 5-12 on the shakey head in 1.5 fow. We repeated this pattern and I ended up getting a dozen more 2-3.5lb keepers. Water temp was 58-60 degrees in this area.

The third day we didn't get anything going and only ended up with a couple small keepers although McCarter and Jason each got a nice one at 5-5 and 5-13 in the last hour of fishing. It was nice to wet a line but not the trip we were looking for. From the sounds of LGMOUTHs report we should have went to Newton. As usual nice fish Mr Watts

Was that rip rap along the road that leads in to Guntersville. That bridge that leads back into that back bay is where two or three Elite pros sat and caught some big uns.

One more shot from down on Guntersville. I couldn't use a GPS so I took about 400 pictures. Is this the rip rap you were referring to down on the Big G. Through that bridge is a big backwater area. Marina off to the left, etc.

No thats not the same bridge, the one we fished was in the creek channel to the west of north sauty I think highway 79. The opening was just big enough for a bassboat to fit through.

My phone is so old I have to worry about things like keeping the string tight.
