Choosing a new flourocarbon line......

Since seaguar stopped making carbon pro i'm going to have to use new flourocarbon this year. I have been researching different brand/kinds of flouro all winter. I want flouro that performs like carbon pro....if thats possible. 100% flouro that is extremely tough, yet you can cast it.

I plan on spooling up a few reels with the different brands.....I was thinking P-Line 100% flouro, Gamma 100% flouro, and Seaguar Inviz-X. I'm not so sure about the Gamma because they do no sell it in bulk.

Any advise or personal experience with any of these product would be helpful.

Last I new Gama stopped making fishing line.  I also heard someone bought it but I don't know the status of that deal.

Seaguar makes other Fluoros that are good.  I think I like them all, even the Red Label.  The Berkley Professional is good too.

You don't want to use Vicious, but I don't know about the new Elite stuff they came out with.  Also most French made lines aren't worth a crap.

Go with invizx, best flouro for the price. Especially since we will be fishing together this year, that way I know you wont be breaking fish off.

I'm with P-Line 100%.  Very happy with their 8, 10, 12, and 17lb lines.  It's strong, tough, and casts well on both casting and spinning reels.  Vicious is so-so and a lot more memory.  I thought Gama was very difficult to manage.

I've been using InvizX, Sunline Sniper, and BPS brand. I don't have any complaints with any of them except the most recent spool of Sunline in 10# has broken a few times when I don't think it should have. I've used P-Line Halo before and really liked that a lot but it is a bit more expensive. You could also try the Seagar AbrazX, but it seems to be a little more difficult to find.

Suprisingly, Bass Pro's line is really, really good.  Someone has to make it for them, but then, something is different about it as I have tried most and like their's the best.

Back in the day I tried a few different lines and InvisX was my top choice. Very expensive, and so I'm off to see the wizard with fluoro. I can get Vicious Elite Pro pretty cheap, in fact real cheap, and I am "reel" cheap. I haven't fished it yet, but I plan to have it spooled for Alabama bass come the first week of April though. Can you say Guntersville, Wheeler, Wilson, Pickwick!
I haven't tried BPS fluoro, but have heard good things about it. King Kong uses it so ....
I'm hoping that with my new spinning reel with it's larger diameter spool, spooled with the new Vicious Elite will fill the bill, and eliminate me having to spend all the bills on Seaguar. I do like Vicious Ultimate 12-16 lb. for my topwater baitcasting needs.
I would like to try some Sunline. A lot of the pros seem to favor it, Biffle, Wolak, etc.
Gamma was well stocked at the Outdoorsman Cy so they must be making it again.

I have tried Invisx and didnt think it was any tougher than mono. Maybe I got a bad spool. I know i've fished with McCarter a few times and he had troubles with Invisx everytime he had it spooled up.

I've never tried abrazx or pline 100%......heard good things about them tho. I'm not going to run halo on my casting reels....i want 100% flouro.

I've never seem king kong have a problem with his XPS tho! ha, might have to try it!

MYTH: All 100% fluorocarbons are created equal.
FACT: No. Just because the product says 100% fluorocarbon does not mean it is just like any other on the market. Only Seaguar makes fluorocarbon lines and leaders from beginning to end without any outside companies involved. The difference of quality varies from brand to brand.

MYTH: All fluorocarbons are stiff.
FACT: No, Seaguar produces incredibly soft and cast-able lines.

MYTH: All fluorocarbons have weak knots.
FACT: Originally, knot strength was the weakest part of fluorocarbon. With our technology, Seaguar's knot strength is not a factor.

MYTH: If fluorocarbon is nicked, it will shine brightly.
FACT: No. As long as it is 100% fluorocarbon, the refractive index will remain the same and not light up or shine when nicked or scratched.

MYTH: Pink fluorocarbon will disappear just as well as clear.
FACT: No. Actually adding color to 100% fluorocarbon makes it weaker, as the dye pigments mix with the fluorocarbon resins. It remains visible until sunlight is completely removed. Originally the color red began showing up on lures, then on hooks. It is believed that the red mimics a wounded baitfish. Red line then became popular, following the whole red theme. The claim is that since red is the first color in the spectrum that loses its color as sunlight is withdrawn, it will become more invisible the deeper it goes. The color red actually appears gray, as it is not reflecting the red rays from the sun. The simple test is: put the red line in the water and see if it becomes harder to see.

MYTH: Fluorocarbon coated nylon has all the invisibility of 100% fluorocarbon.
FACT: It can help some, but clear coating a red car, still shows the red underneath.

MYTH: You can make fluorocarbon more UV resistant than others.
FACT: Not really, as 100% fluorocarbon is almost totally impervious to UV rays. If it could, it would not be a factor that makes much of a difference.

MYTH: Seaguar produces the resins for other manufacturers.
FACT: No. Seaguar does not sell their line and leader resins to other manufacturers.

MYTH: You can make fluorocarbon more invisible than others.
FACT: No. The refractive index of 100% fluorocarbon is a constant and cannot be altered.

MYTH: Fluorocarbon is completely invisible and matches the refractive index (the way light bends) of water.
FACT: No. It is as close as any form of line or leader can get to the refractive index of water, thus making it virtually invisible, but not completely. Some brands do state that, but it is not true.

MYTH: Fluorocarbon is stiff in cold water.
FACT: Fluorocarbon is perfect for cold water or ice fishing as it absorbs very little water, remaining soft and supple.

MYTH: Fluorocarbon has very little stretch or none at all.
FACT: Yes, fluorocarbon lines and leaders do stretch, but not as much as mono. Line typically has more stretch than leader. All Seaguar lines and leaders provide the optimum amount of shock impact/stretch.

I actually e-mailed seaguar today and asked them if they would assist me by send me a sample spool of abrazx and invizx since they discontinued carbon pro....and thats what i used.




............they said no! ha.....i honestly thought they would send me a sample spool. But they said they dont have any........right!

I wouldn't recommend that green stuff P-Line makes because it's too sensitive, abrasion resistent, and it has virtually ZERO memory - it's kind of like using invisible braid which would be .  If you want memory like Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting then XPS is the way to go.

HALO is 100% fluorocarbon - P-Line simply took the best of multiple fluorocarbon crystals and blended them to create a Hybrid or Super fluorocarbon line.  I don't have personal experience (from what I have been told the lighter tests also outperform the competition) with the lighter lb. tests but I do know that the 17-lb test is the best line on the market for what I use it for; if you throw jigs 3/8 oz. and higher you will want to spend the money and get the HALO.  I switched from 20-lb. Seagar to 17-lb HALO on a couple football jig setups and was blown away by the multiple advantage it provided.  If you don't want to EVER break-off on fish and want to feel every single pebble or blade of grass than go with the HALO.......It's worth every penny.

Yes.  I ended up getting a spool of 10# too.  I've got 10# on a baitcaster and a spinning reel and 20# on a baitcaster.  Fished the 10# on a baitcaster a lot on Patoka last week fishing a crankbait.  I hit a lot of wood, rocks, gravel, you name it.  Very impressed so far.  Casts great and is the most abrasion resistant flouro I've use to date....

The owner of Ozark Tackle in Branson told me last week that the new red boxed Seaguar is basically the old Carbon Pro remarketed.  Take it for what it's worth.
