Check this pig out.  This fish was caught by Brandon Conner of Ionia, MI.  I met Brandon at the GR Show.  He and his friend bought some jigs from me and afterwards we became facebook friends.  He posted these pics earlier today and i got the story from him and asked if it would be ok to post here.  He gave me the green light so here it is.

17.80 lbs 34.38" long

taken from the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids.

there are more pictures and the weight was witnessed by a CO and several other people.  They are taken the necessary steps to get this fish qualified as a C&R State Record.  Im sure there will be more info in the near future.  Either way, this fish is a giant and is swimming the river once again.

That is one BIG walleye! Congratulations!

Peace.
It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

HOLY SUMOLLIES!! That's a big walleye.

I watched some guys boat a walleye from a pontoon at the Eastmanville bridge one afternoon in the middle of summer that looked like a 10+ and it got me thinking I've been hearing more and more whispers about giant walleyes from the lower Grand. This cements it! Guess I better add another trip to the todo list.

Help stop invasive spcies. Don't move fish between unconnected bodies of water. Clean, drain and dry your boat before launching on another water body.

Surprised no one mentioned it was on a fly rod.  That must have been fun!

steelhead05

its actually a centerpin i caught it on

LGMOUTH

OK I will ask, what the heck is a centerpin? Nice fish Brandon, now if you could just catch bass like you do those other things you call fish then that would be something.... ;D
When you are in any contest you should work as if there whereto the very last minute a chance to loose it.

LGMOUTH

Oh and I forgot, welcome to the site.

Don, a centerpin is what us river guys use to target steelhead and a few other species in a river or where their is current..i like to use a long rod like a 13-15ft..the reel has two sets of bearings in it that allows the spool to free spin with the current speed..i like to run small shot up my line and that allows me to trot my line down the river and and the first thing the fish sees is the bait instead of a wod of lead..its a deadly technique on steelhead under the right conditions and occasionally a walleye  ;)
