Well, this didn’t go quite the way I personally hoped, but the team did pretty well. Modrak is leading and several other members – Cummings, Peck, Reiter off the top of my head (tired head) had real good weights.
Well, tomorrow it counts. Tomorrow the hooks will be set with full and unforgiving force because we all need to bring in the bags. We can’t let Michigan down and lose on our home turf!!! No way. We would never live it down.

Well, had to work late every night this week at the ‘day’ job so nothing much prepared. Now comes Saturday and I have a zillion things to do to get on the road for the 2008 TBF Northern Divisional Championship.

I’d like to begin by giving credit for the idea of local sponsorship to Scott Rauber the author of Fish for Free. A couple of years ago a friend and I were kicking around the idea of tournament fishing. We heard about an up and coming tournament being sponsored by a local radio station and we decided to sign up.
Few of us get to fulfill childhood dreams of playing Major League Baseball or fishing professionally; however, it’s those few that do come true that keep us fantasizing. Close to home and a new source of inspiration is Mickey Thomas of Edwardsburg, Michigan.
Now that we’re at the tail end of the unofficial sponsorship season (roughly October through March), many of the techniques and approaches to gaining a sponsorship are still fresh in my mind.

COMMUNICATE – A lot of problems can be ironed out with a question. Like after the boater misses a fish “Do you mind if I throw in there?” I’ve offered my baits up first thing in the morning; by saying “If you need anything just ask.”
I was pleasantly shocked the next morning when I was called off as boat number 2. Larry was boat number 3. That doesn’t normally happen and boosted my confidence. The guys at Top Bass did their best to get us out quickly since we could see boats coming across the lake from the other tournaments as we launched.
My good friends and regular fishing partners Derek Baetz and Larry Dekker talked me into giving the Top Bass circuit a try this year. Top Bass has an interesting format in that you fish by yourself – so everyone is a guaranteed boater.
2004 has been an interesting year for me. Overall, I went fishing far less than I have the past 10 or 15 years. I had slow days like everyone, but some good ones too though when I did get out.
Ranger Boats unveiled the exciting and totally new Z-Comanche Series line of bass boats this past August at the FLW Championship. The Z-Comanche’s are the first major redesign of a bass boat line in many years.
